Dog’s Gone Wild: 2006

by John Stapleton

Is your dog out of control? Mine was. At times, I thought my situation was hopeless. With the right information and techniques you can turn the situation around. That’s what I did. Here’s my story.
Babe is my beloved German Sheppard. We got Babe from a friend who moved away. Even though he loved his dog, he couldn’t take her with him. My two daughters, Ashley and Tara, begged me to let us take her, and I agreed. They were thrilled to have another dog. We had lost our malamute, Rusty, in a car accident just a just few months before.

I noticed before we took Babe, that she barked alot. I thought it wouldn’t be much of a problem and could be corrected with a little work. A few days after she became part of our family, I realized she had many other behavioral problems. When I would take her for a walk, I would mercilessly have to chase after her. She would nip at strangers and be very aggressive. She would sometimes bark uncontrollably all through the night. At times, I thought I bit off more than I could chew!

After all of my searching, fortunately, one day I found the solution. I can’t tell you what a difference it has made. I learned new techniques of disciplining that really worked! I started to see things from Babe’s point of view and understand why she would do the things she did. I learned the proper commands and when to use them. I also learned when to praise and give rewards and when not to.

Now I don’t know what I would do without Babe. The kids take her everywhere with them. She’s a wonderful companion and a great protection for my children. We have a blast taking her on family vacations, and can take her everywhere we go.

You can have a great relationship with your dog. It’s so nice to have found what she needed all along.
